The Marx Memorial Library is currently working with the Morning Star on an exciting project to digitise our full run of the Daily Worker and the Morning Star newspapers.
This is a crucial project to make our phenomenal archive of copies of this newspaper - a unique record of the British left and international struggle - available to wider audiences. It will ensure they are preserved for the long term and will enable unprecedented levels of access and kinds of use.
At the moment issues of the paper 1930-1945 and 2000 onwards are available digitally (http://www.ukpressonline.co.uk/ukpressonline/open/index.jsp ). We want to close this gap, and have begun by digitising a handful of issues documenting significant events of the twentieth century.
We are scanning each issue using our own state of the art photography table and running the images through text recognition software to read each page. This means that our digital copies will be searchable.
