Monopoly Power Against Democratic Rights

With Simon Renton The final in a series of four classes on CAPITALISM, CRISIS AND IMPERIALISM

This course examines capitalist development over the past century and does so in order to provide an understanding of the economic and political nature of the political and economic crisis which began in 2008 and which continues today.

The course draws on a number of explanations but principally those in the Marxist tradition.  It does not assume any prior knowledge but it might be useful to read, if you have not done so already, Marx’s Wages Price and Profit and Lenin’s Imperialism: the highest stage of Capitalism.  The course will be run concurrently with the Library’s On-line course of the same name and its resources will be made available to those enrolled.
