  • When can I visit the Library? +

    The Marx Memorial Library and Workers’ School is open to the public Monday to Thursday from 12 until 4pm. We also offer guided tours of the building every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm.

  • How do I access items in your collection? +

    If you would like to access our collections, we recommend that you book an appointment in advance. This will enable us to retrieve any books and boxes for you in advance.

  • How do I join the MML? +

  • Can I search for books and archives online? +

    The vast majority of books, periodicals and pamphlets are catalogued on our database here. We are in the process of cataloguing our archives and posters.   • Are your archives digitised? +

    We are in the process of digitising some of our core collections including parts of the Spanish Collection and issues of the Daily Worker/Morning Star.   • How do I register for classes and events? +

  • How do I get involved? +

    The Library relies on a community of volunteers that play a dynamic part in all aspects of Library work. Many of our volunteers come in for one or two days per week and help with a range of tasks from administrative jobs, to giving tours, and assisting in cataloguing and

  • I would like to donate some of my own books and/or archives +

    The Library gratefully receives donations of books and archives. What we choose to keep will be in line with our acquisitions policy. Given our limited resources, we often have to advise that duplicate publications are sent elsewhere. If you would like to donate books please get in touch.

Theory & Struggle

Theory & Struggle

Theory & Struggle is the journal of the Marx Memorial Library published by Liverpool University Press. Currently published annually, it features articles that grapple with debates taking place within Marxist circles as well studying critical developments in the labour and progressive movements in Britain and internationally, including movements for gender equality, for racial equality and for peace. 

Our new-look 2017 issue festures articles from Andrew Murray, Jane McDermid and Sitaram Yechury and focuses on the centenary of the 1917 October Revolution. 


Since 2017 Marx Memorial Library has been delighted to work with Liverpool University Press to publish Theory & Struggle.
