Launch of Martin Rowson's 'Communist Manifesto' Published in 1848, at a time of political upheaval in Europe, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels’s Manifesto of the Communist Party was at once a powerful critique of capitalism and a radical call to arms. It remains the most incisive introduction to the ideas of Communism and the most lucid explanation of its aims. Much of what it proposed continues to be at the heart of political debate into the 21st century. Reading Capital Class 2 With Dr Jonathan White Dr White will lead three fortnightly classes, starting Tuesday 22 May on ‘Reading Capital’ that will provide an introduction to the book itself and how to read it. Crystallising Marx’s critique of capitalism, Das Kapital laid the basis for rise of working class movements, including the British Labour Party, that sought to create a new type of society based on the social ownership of the means of production.
